Away Day at
Mill-on-the-Soar
It was a pretty tough old day for the lads who went up to Mill-on-the-Soar for an Away Day
Sweepstake. This has been a popular venue of late with some good catches being taken but with the freezing
overnight conditions, probably the coldest so far this winter, the Carp and big skimmers were defiantly not in the
mood.
Keith Macfarlane took the honours with 5lb 4oz, a good result on the day, from peg 30. The odd
small skimmer and small roach were the only species that could be tempted so at least there were a few bites to be
had.
Vinnie Logie, on peg 34, and Lee Nash on peg 26 managed to tie for the runner-up spot quite an
accomplishment to tie when so many small fish were caught .
Section 1 went to Mark Akiens with 3lb 14oz from peg 32 with Kev Hirons taking Section 2 on peg
26 with 2lb 6oz.

Good Catch for George
George Cuppelditch sent in this picture of a 12lb 8oz Ghost Carp that he caught last Thursday
(9/1/14) at Kilworth Sticks.

It was caught, surface fishing with floating bread. It would have been nice to get a mugshot in,
so that George can be seen with his quarry . Perhaps we should sack the camera man!!!

Sweepstake Match on Currans
Loop
Sunday (29/12/13) saw a Sweepstake match held on Currans Loop at Kilworth Sticks. Nine
members took part in what was a pretty decent day weather-wise. A break between the howling gales that we are
experiencing at present . And although the didn't fish spectacularly
well...it was better than most thought it would be! .
Most of the Carp were to be found on the far side of Currans and it was from the two pegs over on
that side that the top two came.
Phil Sansby and Mark Akiens spent most of the day battling out between them as to who would take
the top prize. At the whistle it was Phil who had just nudged out in front with fourteen Carp for 32lb 8oz from the
end peg, 23. Phil fished Long Pole about six inches or so off the bottom to try to avoid the submerged tree roots.
Careful feeding kept the fish coming and he was able to add to his tally throughout.
Second placed Mark Akiens started like the proverbial train, and had netted six Carp within the
first hour to take the early lead. Fishing a similar style to Phil, Marks bites, though, tended to slow down after
the initial frenzy . and he was just one decent fish short of winning
at the end with 28lb from peg 20.
Section 1 went to Steve Beckhurst with three Carp and a few Roach for 7lb 13oz from peg 9. With
Kevin Hirons taking Section 2 with 10lb 6oz, including a 6lb+ Carp, from peg 17.
