Jasons Lake
Sweepstake
With Christmas fast approaching and no official matches scheduled until the
new year, twelve of the regular Matchmen organised a sweepstake match on Jasons Lake. After all of the rain after
the past few days most were amazed that the Lake was even fishable! In fact it didn't look to bad at all, with a
bit of colour in the water everyone thought that there may be a few fish caught.
Sadly, though, that didn't turn out to be the case as most struggled, two
or three packed up early without even registering a bite! the peg 10-21 half of the lake was the poorest half by a
long way...
As most know, the Carp are always in and around peg 4, it is usually a case
of whoever is pegged there being able to get them out!!! . It was Malc Springs turn to throw the gauntlet
down this week...And this time it was the Angler who came out on top. A six landed to five lost score was
enough for Malc to put a winning 23lb on the scales at the all out. Malc fished bread on the Pole to tempt
them.
Eight decent sized Silvers caught on the Pole with maggot and a 7lb+ Carp
that fell to sweetcorn on the tip gave Steve Beckhurst the runner-up spot with 18lb 12oz from peg 6. Steve fished
quite close to the near bank for the Silvers in an effort to combat the strong winds that made the first couple of
hours very difficult.
Third place went to Dave Kimber with 5lb of Roach and Skimmers from peg 1.
Dave set out his stall to fish for small fish with light lines and small hooks on the Pole. As is usually the case
when fishing this way, Dave hooked and lost a big Carp. At the end of the day, though, it probably wouldn't have
made much difference to the overall result.
Den Porter took Section 1 with 3lb 13oz from peg 7, and Section 2 went to
Steve Harrison with 3lb 10z from peg 10, the only prize winner in that half of the Lake!

Attention
Pike
Anglers
Mick Geary will not be available to run the next Pike Match which is
scheduled for 6th January 2013. Derek Cramp has kindly volunteered to take over for this day. The Match is to be
held at Meadow Lane, Syston. If the Match has to cancelled due to the lake being frozen or flooded, it will not be
switched to any other venue on the day. Hopefully conditions will be fine and the fishing can take place as
scheduled.

Away Day "Mill on the Soar"
Lake
For a change of scenery in a quite weekend between the fifth round and
final of the Chairmans League eleven of the regular match crew had a day at Mill on the Soar Fishery, just outside
Narborough. A lake with a good head of Skimmers, Carp and Roach. On arriving at the venue, though, it didn't look
too inviting....The lake is connected to the River Soar and with all of the recent rain, it was well above normal
levels and highly coloured.
The cold westerly winds didn't help matters and in the first hour only Kev
Hirons was catching, the odd small Roach, fishing pinkie on the waggler.
Drawing the only peg with any degree of shelter, Den Porter (surprise
surprise ) was seen to be netting a rather large fish.
Spawny so and so has got a Carp, most thought.....but... it turned out to be an 8lb+ Pike!!!! caught on double
sweetcorn (how's yer luck eh ). To be fair to Den, though, he did catch two Carp and a few small fish later in the day which would have very likely have won
the day without the Pike. 18lb 2oz winning by a distance.
Peg 29 is not always a peg that has a great deal of form, but with the
strong gusting wind being kinder to the occupant by blowing more over his back than in his face Phil Sansby made
good use of it. Phil had a mixed bag with a couple of decent Skimmers included to take the runner-up spot with 9lb
4oz.
Just 4oz behind Phil was Jason Farmery, on peg 2, who did well to catch 9lb
as he was sitting, along with three others with the wind blowing straight at him. Jason countered this by fishing a
line very close to the near bank and it eventually paid off with the small fish getting more confidant as the day
wore on. Jasons 9lb earning him third place on the day.
Section 1 went to Vinnie Logie on peg 12 with 6lb 12oz of small Roach and
Skimmers. Keith Macfarlane taking Section 2 with 7lb 10oz from peg 36.
It was a pretty tough day as most of the bigger fish in the lake refused to
feed but at least everyone caught a few fish and had a few bites .

Away Day Eye Kettleby Lake
4
Some of the Broome AS regular Match Anglers decided to book Lake 4 for a
day out on Eye Kettleby Lakes last Sunday. It was a cold start, but with the sun making an early breakthrough it
looked like it would be, at the very least, a pleasant day to be outside .
It was a very pleasant day for Paul "Cookie" Cooke....As the "all in"
sounded Cookie jokingly said, as he cast his legered sweetcorn in between the two islands, " just get a quick eight
Carp, on the tip before I start on the Pole line......" His bait had been in the water no more than 30 seconds
before his tip went sailing round and Carp No1 was in the net!!! Four Carp in the first four casts made half of his
joking prophecy come true! The Fish kept coming throughout and Cookie ended with 28lb to comfortably claim top
spot.
Sadly it was not the same for anyone else in the competition. Simon Pepper was one of the only
anglers to catch any of the many Skimmers in this lake, and added to a 4lb+ Carp, netted in the last hour, Simon
took his final tally to 11lb 14oz for the runner-up place.
With everybody else struggling to get so much as a bite it seemed as though the Fish were tightly
shoalled......mainly in Cookie's Peg!!!! .
Phil Sansby managed to tempt a couple of Carp from peg 5 in the last hour to take Section 1 with
8lb 4oz. Steve Beckhurst winkled out three small Carp fishing tight to the middle Island to take Section 2 with 7lb
7oz.
