Away day at
Mill-on-the-Soar
The latest Away Day Match at Mill-on-the-Soar fished on Sunday 6/4/14) turned out to be an all
out Carp contest with very few catching the numerous skimmers that are present in the Lake. The wind was once again
non to kind except for about six of the sixteen starters who had it blowing over there back!! .
It was, as so often , Steve Kinch who came out on top with 44lb
12oz from peg 28. Steve netted nine Carp and a few small Skimmers alternating between a far bank line and
another line down the middle of the lake. All of his fish falling to a 4mm soft pellet whilst feeding a small
pot of micro's virtually every put in.
Den Porter on the armchair peg, 23 , with the wind hardly ruffling his fast greying
locks, was just one fish behind Steve with 41lb 12oz. Den caught on both the tip and the Long Pole. Once again
the main part of Dens catch was made up of carp. Den had opted for a 6mm soft pellet as his main bait.
Third spot went to Mick Knight on peg 10. Mick netted ten carp by fishing straight lead over
towards the far bank, with most of his fish falling to banded hard pellet.
Section 1 went to Lee Nash with 20lb 4oz from peg 6. Malc Spring taking Section 2 with 36lb 8oz
and Mark Akiens took home the third Section prize with 33lb 14oz from peg 34.

Vandalism at Kilworth
Sadly we have to report an act of mindless vandalism at Kilworth Sticks
Fishery:
To the member
concerned.
The ludicrous, mindless theft of the
floating lifeline off one of the life belts is unforgivable. This mindless, selfish act could cost a member
his life. These belts are lifesaver's, as proven by the angler who fell in the lake at Frisby recently. Had it
not been for the rope no one would have been able to pull him back to
safety.
I hope whoever did this were
seen by another member and he comes forward and identifies them. Steps will be taken to ban them for
life from the Society.

Crayfish traps in place at
Kilworth
Terry Branston reports that the Crayfish traps have been put in place at
Kilworth:
To
All Members
Crayfish Traps have been placed around Lizzies Lake at
Kilworth, pegged into the side of the bank. Please do not interfere with them. Also four blue bins have
been positioned around Lizzies Lake for the removal of Crayfish, so if you hook one please throw it in one of
these bins for disposal. THE BLUE BINS ARE NOT FOR FISHING, OR ANY OTHER RUBBISH.
Thanks.

Sweepstake at Jasons
It was, possibly, one of the coldest starts of the year so far with an early morning frost to
contend with but the rising sun promising a pleasant spring day.
Jasons has been fishing very well for pleasure fishermen recently so the eight members fishing
the match were hoping for some good sport....sadly the weights were somewhat disapointing.
It turned put to be a Farmery show with Mick claiming top spot and Jason the runner-up position.
Mick drew the ever popular peg 4, the peg that has claimed as many broken Pole sections as it has provided winners
. Micks winning weight was just over a pound and
half ahead of Jason with 16lb 12oz. Jason put 14lb 6oz on to the scales from peg 10 to finish almost 10lb
ahead of third place .
Mark Akiens continued with his recent good form by taking third place with 4lb 8oz from peg
17.

Good Day for Tudor at
Kilworth
Tudor Jones had a good day at Kilworth Sticks with the carp pictured below the best of the lot.
Read his account (below)

Started off on Lizzies at first light on Sunday 9/3/14 with fish
showing on the top. The wind got up and the temperature dropped. Had not had any joy by lunchtime so went for a
wander around, Admiral Pool was as clear as crystal and I could see a lot of fish patrolling on the top. I
quickly changed to free lining dog biscuits and six Carp shortly followed with this one the pick of the
bunch.

Away day at
Mill-on-the-Soar
After the last Away Day Match at Mill-on-the-Soar fished so well in pretty bad conditions a
return visit was voted for . Although the conditions were very much improved
the fishing was slightly disappointing, but, having said that, everyone caught a few fish .
Malc Spring was feeling under the weather (or on his deathbed as he put it ). But after struggling to his peg he managed to
hook a Carp with his first cast on the tip!! After persisting with the ledger rod for a while longer no more
bites were forthcoming so a switch to the Pole concentrating on a margin swim was his next plan. It didn't pay
off until the last half hour or so when the Carp decided it was time for a feed. The six Malc netted, all
caught on bread, earned him top spot with 25lb 12oz.
Mark Akiens drew the fancied peg 2 but with just one small Carp in the net going in to the latter
stages of the match it was looking as if it wasn't going to be his day. As with Malc, though, the fish suddenly
stated feeding and Mark put three more big lads into his net to give him the runner-up place with 17lb 8oz.
Third place went to Vinnie Logie, who must have had more fish than anyone . Vinnie's 16lb 6oz was all Silver fish. A good weight on the day with no
Carp bonus fish. He caught by fishing Long Pole with soft pellet on the hook from peg 32.
Section 1 went to Steve Beckhurst with 16lb from peg 8, with Lee Nash taking Section 2 putting
13lb 14oz on the scales from peg 34.
