Jasons Lake Sweepstake 7/3/10
It gets a little tiresome to keep repeating the same old story, but
once again the weather saved its worst for the weekend....Although the day itself was very pleasant, the night time
temperatures of -7/-8 meant that, once again, the first job of the day was ice clearing!!!
It was 2 hours into the match before Alan Smith landed the first fish of the
day...a 2oz Perch! Strangely, although the fish were not feeding as yet, the Carp seemed to be mooching about. a
succession of foul hooked fish followed in the next hour. Phil Sandsby hooked and lost a carp, on peg 12, whilst
fishing on light "roach tackle". Mick Farmery went even better... he foul hooked three Carp in peg 14.....and lost
the lot!!! Vinnie Logi, on peg 20, joined the party and also lost a "foul hooker"
In the other half of Jasons (pegs 1-9) things were just starting to improve
slightly with an odd roach being caught. Den Porter then landed one of his two Carp from peg 4 that was going to,
eventually, leave him in a tie for first place.
To be fair, peg 17 is a peg that screams fish...but very rarely produces much in a
Match situation. After drawing peg 17 for the second Jasons Lake match in succession, Dave Kimber was not to
chuffed and he set about telling everyone who cared
to listen, that he wasn't to chuffed... . Just as Dave was thinking of a move into Colver,
his float dipped and a tussle started with the first of his two Carp!!! . The two fish weighed in at 9lb 14oz and
resulted in a tie with Den for top spot.
After earlier losing three foul hooked Carp, Mick Farmery must have thought that
his chance of picking up some prize money had gone; but Micks persistance paid off when he, finally, got a Carp to
eat his bait! . As usual Mick, who does't do things by half
, landed a beast just 2oz short of 9lb...and third
place was secured.
Dave Hemmings on peg 13 elected for a ledgering approach, and with the end of the
Match drawing close Dave was rewarded with a fine 6lb Carp that was enough to give him Section 2. Long time leader
in the Match, Paul Cooke, watched, with horror , all of the Carp catching going on. With every
Carp caught, Paul slipped further and further down the leader board....At the whistle he just managed to cling
on to the Section 1 prize money . A tough day for all, but, maybe, an odd sign of
better things to come .

An Absolute Stunner! 3/3/10
Marcus Barrowcliffe has only been a member of Brooome A.S. for a
couple of weeks, and already he has been right at the heart of the "action". He hooked this beauty on a cold
winters morning... Read his account, below...

On the 27th of February 2010 at 5.45am I had a blistering take on my left hand rod
which resulted in a battle which lasted 25 minutes with a stunning mirror carp on the landing mat, which weighed in
at superb 25lb. I caught this beauty at one of Broome's lovely lakes at 50 yards range. It was my third visit
having only previously caught them up to 19lb. I caught this on this on a piece of pepperami in conjuction with a
solid pva bag of sweetcorn, amino groundbait and crushed meat.
Well done Marcus, and thanks for sharing your catch with us .

Jasons Lake Sweepstake 23/2/10
With 4inch's of snow laying on the ground it was clear to the six
members who turned out for a sweepstake match on Jasons Lake that this years winter will not go without a
fight!!
There was a thin covering of ice over some of the Lake and this caused more of a
problem than a thicker ice covering. Thick ice can be pushed out of the way, but the thinner stuff just floats
about and makes a nuisance of itself .
It was decided to make the match a "rover"...six numbers were put into the bag and
drawn out by the matchmen, number one had first choice of pegs and so on until all six anglers had chosen their
pegs.
Keith Macfarlane pulled out number six, and therefore had last choice!! He was
hoping to get peg 9, probably the deepest peg on the Lake. He was thankfull that none of the others fancied it as
he made his way to his fancied peg 9.... A wise choice it turned out to be as well as, after a slow start Keith
started to put a string of silver fish into the net, finishing with a very creditable 4lb 12oz and first
place
Jason Farmery had first pick of pegs and he opted for peg 5, a peg that dad, Mick,
had been catching a few fish off all week . Jasons choice was good enough to earn him
second place with 2lb 6oz of Silver fish.
In a very close battle for second place Frank Lyons just missed out and had to
settle for third spot with his 2lb 5oz. There were only a few ounces between all of the rest of the competitors, so
all in all it was a pretty good match on a pretty difficult day.

The Beast of Peatling 16/2/10
Just to remind everyone that summer is not to far
away . We have a picture of a fine Carp caught by Chris
Shore at one of the Away League Matches fished at Peatling Lake B toward the end of September last
year.

Chris hooked this 19lb 8oz beauty on the "Pellet Waggler" and landed it about half
an hour later!!! . It was, along with 4lb of other fish, enough to
give Chris 3rd place in the Match....
Hopefully we can soon put our thermals away for
a few months and get back to a bit of warm weather fishing .
