Davids Pike 27/1/10
A fine, fit and healthy looking Pike was Banked by David Caunt
recently. Read, below the photo, Davids account of the capture...

I caught this pike today 23/01/10 on Jurassic Lake. On a short afternoon session,
with my dad, after a few missed runs between us I finally hooked it on a float leger rigged eel section injected
with Van Den Eynde Predator Plus. My previous best was 4lb....! After a good fight I was amazed when the scales
stopped at 22lb 9oz!! Just one hour before the end of the session.
Many thanks to David for taking the time to send his photo in. This picture will
be displayed in the "Gallery" section in a couple of weeks.

Smiggys Lake Sweepstake 26/1/10
With the icey conditions behind us, hopefully until next winter!!!
At last some anglers are starting to
get back to what sundays were made for.... ...
Thirteen members fished a sweepstake match on Smiggys Lake last sunday, and
although it was good to get out to a spot of fishing again, the results were a little disappointing.
All of the money was won from pegs that, on previous evidence, you wouldn't
normally run to! Jason Farmery was the only angler to catch Bream, and just to rub it in....Jason caught two
. Jason drew peg 13 and his two Bream plus
about 2lb of silver fish took his winning total weight to 13lb 2oz.
At the other end of the Lake, on peg 30, Chris Shaw put 3lb 4oz of silver fish on
the scales to claim 2nd place. Third placed Dave Kimber, peg 10, also caught silver fish and just 2lb 2oz was
enough to take that third spot.
Section winners were Chris Skinner 1lb 4oz from peg 16 and Mick Farmery 1lb 14oz
from peg 28.
Strangly the pegs that you would usually expect to catch a few fish from, pegs
1-7, fared worst of all with just one bite and no fish caught....The only way is up.....so they say
.

Meadow Lane Sweepstake 18/1/10
With the abandonment of sundays Winter League match eight of the
eleven, who turned up for the Winter League draw, decided to fish a sweepstake match....the problem was to find a
venue!!! All of the Frisby Complex was in much the same icey state as Colver. First look was at the Wreake Junction
Canal on Meadow Lane, but after the recent snow thaw and heavy rain the canal was very high and chocolate coloured.
Next on the list was Meadow Lane Lake, and although the Lake had a covering of ice it was pretty thin. A few swims
were soon cleared enough for a competition to take place.
As expected it was very hard going, but with everyone suffering from "cabin fever"
after being shut in for so long, it was just nice to get out and cast a line again .
Dave Hemmings, on peg 10, carried on his good form of last year and managed 1lb
6oz of perch....we shall all remind Dave of his perch net when he starts moaning about catching "damned pesky
footballers" in the summer!!!
Second place went to Alan Smith, with 1lb 4oz of small roach from peg 14. Steve
Harrison claiming third spot, from peg 8, with 1lb of small perch.
Not a great deal of fish, but it is nice to be reporting some action, at last,
instead of all the weather related doom and gloom.

Winter League Match Abandoned 17/1/10
Todays (17/1/10) Winter League match, scheduled to be fished on
Colver, had to be abandoned due to the thick covering of ice. A slow thaw is underway but unfortunately it has
arrived to late for this weekend. Eleven anglers turned up for the match but their best attempts failed to make any
impression on the frozen lake.
Due to there being no available dates, this match will not now be fished. The next
Winter League match will be on Jasons lake on 31st January 2010....weather permitting!!

Big Freeze Continues 10/1/10
A trip down to Frisby complex today revealed all of the Lakes still
with a thick covering of Ice....Unsuprising really, given the recent temperatures!!! A Sweepstake match arranged
for the River Soar at Rothley was cancelled and the Pike League match was cancelled. As yet I am unable to find out
if the Pike League Match will be re-arranged. I will let you know as soon as I have more
information.

Amazingly enough...Two anglers were fishing on Colver!!! Simon Pepper and Jason
Farmery had somehow managed to clear about a square meter of Ice and were doing their Eskimo impressions...Even
more amazing, they had both caught a few small fish!!!
