Jasons Lake Sweepstake 25/4/10
Eleven members decided to fish a sweepstake match after the AGM on Sunday. With
the later draw time, the match was fished from 1.30pm until 6.30pm. Jasons Lake looked in fine fettle with a decent
colour and plenty of fish moving about.
The biggest groan at the drawbag came from Chris "Cormorant" Shore
when he pulled out the much maligned peg 17!
However the groans were soon to be heard on the other side of the Lake from "Bad Back" Dave Hemmings, as he
was the first to witness Cormorant Chris latching onto a sizeable Carp first put in!!! . Peg 17 is really turning into a "curates
egg" as one week the peg seems totally deviod of aquatic life and the next it produces match framing
weights!
Today it was one of its good days Chris netting about ten or so good sized Carp
for 41lb 13oz.
A good weight, but not quite enough to catch Den Porter! Den pulled out peg 6,
another peg that has plenty of "previous". Den made no mistake fishing tight to the reeds he managed to coax out a
match winning 45lb 1oz of Carp, losing only one fish in the process....
Dave Kimber took up his resident spot on peg 4... and ended up third with 28lb
8oz. Another frustrating day for Dave saw him lose 8 fish in the reeds....But, at least, this week Dave managed to
take his Pole home in one piece! .
Mick Farmery and Simon Pepper tied for Section 1 with 9lb apiece, both weighing in
a couple of Carp for the bulk of their weights. Keith Macfarlane probably had the best days fishing in the match,
he had a lovely net of Silver fish to go with his one Carp for 20lb 3oz and a well earned Section 2 win.

Colver Sweepstake 18/4/10
The recent fine weather and a very welcome return of the sunshine
saw a good turn out for a sweepstake match fished last Sunday on Colver Lake. As normal at this time of year, the
fine days usually follow a pretty cold night, so it was on Sunday. This undoubtedly accounted for the slow start
that most of the competitors experienced.....Apart from the odd Carp caught in the early part of the match, it was
the last couple of hours that, once again were the most "Carp" productive.
There are still areas where the Carp are somewhat shoalled up, and the end pegs at
the roadside end of the Lake still seem the most favoured. Dave Kimber could be seen running to his peg when he
pulled out peg 21!!! and with good reason, there was no waiting
for the last two hours for Dave. It was more or less a fish a chuck from the off....Dave's final, winning,
weight of 79lb 12oz more than doubling the second placed weight.
Chris Shore, always a consistant performer on this venue, was that second placed
man. His 37lb 10oz from peg 13 coming out on top of a string of other 30lb+ weights. In what was seemingly a good
area both third and fourth places came from the pegs either side of Chris.... Vinnie Logi claiming third spot from
peg 15 with 34lb 12oz and Jason Farmery, just 2oz behind Vinnie, settling for last in the frame from peg
11.
Section winners on the day were Keith Macfarlane on peg 1, with 34lb 4oz. Section
2 went to Shane Fowler with 30lb 12oz, from peg 23. Just sneeking in with section 3 was your very own webmaster
with 26lb 6oz from peg 41 .

Colver Sweepstake 6/4/10
Colver Lake was the chosen venue for an Easter Sunday Sweepstake
Match. Three anglers already pleasure fishing told the matchmen that it was pretty tough going...and so it
proved!!! A cold and blustery wind, that seemed, somehow, to be blowing in three directions all at the same time
made bait presentation very difficult.
The bait presentation problems didn't seem to affect Chris Shore to much though,
Chris caught fish from the very first cast, and finished the Match with an impressive 32 carp from peg 24. Chris's
64lb 10oz beating the second and third placed anglers combined weights by more than 16lb!! .
Whilst Chris was emptying his peg everyone else was struggling for bites. Apart
from an odd Carp caught here and there, it was Silver fish and the small recently stocked Carp that were
making up the weights.
It was a good four hours into the Match before the Carp showed any real interest.
That was when Mick Farmery cashed in, Micks 27lb 10oz, from peg 7 was easily enough to take second
place.
Again it was carp caught in the last hour or so that pushed Den Porters total up
to 19lb 10oz and third in the match. Den netted four or five Carp, from peg 34, and together with just over 6lb of
Silvers Den sneaked up and into the frame.
Dave Kimber probably caught more fish than anyone else in the Match, an impressive
net of 19lb of Silvers from peg 5 was enough to take home the Section 1 money. The last couple of hours was also
the most productive time for your Webmaster . It was during that last third of the
competition that I managed to net six Carp and along with 5lb of Silvers caught earlier from peg 30, my 19lb
took the Section 2 prize money.
