Smiggys Lake Sweepstake 22/3/10

A sweepstake match fished on Smiggys Lake last Sunday was won by Dave Kimber from peg 15. Dave netted 8lb 4oz consisting of one good Bream, a fine 1lb'ish Perch and around 3lb of silver fish. a good return on a hard day.

6lb 11oz was enough for Simon Pepper to secure second place from peg 6. Den Porter came in third with a good net of silver fish for 5lb 4oz from peg 29.

It was a difficult day for most, as, after the first hour the fish decided to "shut up shop" and bites were at a premium. With very few big fish caught it was a case of Bream or bust for many of the anglers, as one decent sized fish would, almost certainly, put you in the money.

Dave Hemmings used that tactic and was rewarded for his patience with a big Bream that made up the majority of his 4lb 8oz section winning weight.

Club Chairman, Alan Smith, seems to be running into some form, his section winning weight of 2lb 11oz resulted in Alans second drag in as many weeks! Once again Al's sandwich's lasted longer than the first 20 minutes of the match!!! .

Broome A.S. Close Season

Please do not forget that the Close Season still applies to the Broome A.S. River venues at Rothley and at Flash Farm. The Close Season runs from 15th March-15th June inc.

It has been reported that anglers have been seen fishing at Rothley on the River Soar section! The Environment Agency take a very dim view on this happening, and they WILL prosecute offenders.

If you do happen to see anyone fishing on our River venues would you please, politely, remind them of the close season laws.

All Lake venues owned or controlled by Broome A.S. remain open as normal, until the Work Partys start. Dates for Work Partys will be announced at the AGM and published on the website.

My weekends catch, Saturday afternoon 12/03/10. I beat my PB for bream four times in one afternoon fishing Smiggys Lake with weights of 4lb 3oz, 4lb 7oz, 5lb and 5lb 9oz and a couple of small roach and gudgeon. This was my 1st pole fishing session in 4 months after spending the winter pike fishing. With the PB pike of 22lb 9oz I also caught from your waters this year so its looking like a good start to 2010...

Indeed it is, and long may it continue...Well done David, and thank you for sending in the photo's of your catch.
