Frisby Workparty 8/6/10
Last Sunday should have been the final Frisby Workparty of 2010. Because of the
bad weather and the disappointing turnout, all of the work on Colver was not completed. So Colver
will be closed this sunday (13/6/10) whilst the rest of the jobs are done. The scheduled Work Party at
Rothley will also take place on the same sunday, this venue will also be closed untill 2.00pm. The other lakes at
Frisby will be open as normal.
Thanks to all those who did turn up. Once again, there were two or three new
faces and everyone worked very hard. A lot of tidying up of swims was completed on Colver, and there was a team
erecting a fence at the back of Jasons Lake.
This fence is there to help prevent any fish losses should those dreaded floods
appear again. In previous seasons floods have caused the loss of many of our fish, either through migration to
other watercourses or the fish dying due to being stranded once the waters have receded.
Just the usual reminder that Rothley Lakes will be closed next Sunday (13/6/10)
until 2pm, whist the work is in progress. All other Broome Lakes will be open as normal.
The "Workparty Sweepstake" was held on Jasons Lake, and very well it fished
too... . The day was quite humid and overcast for the first half of the match with
the rains lashing down on the seven competitors for the last couple of hours.
Mick Farmery was quite happy at drawing peg 10....and at the end of the match he
was even happier!! An outstanding weight of 74lb 3oz was what Mick took to the scales. Mick started off catching
the odd Silver fish and an occasional Perch, but it was when he spotted about five or six Carp milling around over
his bait that the fun started. Mick decided to let them settle down for about half an hour before he put a bait to
them...It was action all the way once they had started to feed with confidence.
Yours truly elected to fish for Silver fish for the early stages of the match, as
these fish can often disappear very quickly. After a slow first thirty minutes the fish started to feed a little
more confidently, and it was three hours later that I had my first look on the Carp line!!! I added two Carp to my
25lb of Silvers for a second placed weight of 30lb...and a damn good days fishing to boot
Chris Shore picked up 3rd spot from peg 9, but it could have been a whole lot
better, Chris had lost four good sized Carp before he gingerly netted one. These early losses meant that "The
Cormorant" would have to settle for last in the frame.
Dave Kimber also had a frustrating day...after drawing peg 4 for the third time in
three matchs, He hopes he never draws it again... . Dave lost eighteen Carp to the reeds, eventually
netting about 18lb....But at least this time he never broke his Pole...!

Bailiff Meeting 1/6/10
There will be a Bailiff meeting on Monday 14th June at 8.15pm. The Meeting will be
held at Birstall Social Club, in the first floor Committee Room. Broome Head Bailiff, Barry Stanley has said that
he would be very grateful if all current Bailiffs, plus anyone who would like to become a Broome Bailiff, could
make every effort to attend.

Meadow Lane Workparty 30/5/10
The workparty roadshow moved on to Meadow Lane, Syston for this
week. Although the turnout was a little disappointing compared with the previous weeks, there was a great amount of
work completed in record time! Many of the trees had started to encroach some pegs, making casting quite difficult.
These trees were cut back, therefore opening up a good few swims.
All of the usual grass cutting, reed trimming, and peg tidying
operations were also carried out... so, once again, a very big pat on the back goes to those who gave up their time
to help out
Next sunday (6/6/10) its back to Frisby. This will be the final
Frisby workparty for this year so please come down and spend a couple of hours helping out. Once again, please
remember that Frisby complex will be closed to all anglers until 2.00pm on sunday.
The "Workparty Sweepstake" was also pretty poorly attended with
only five of the workers electing to fish the Match. It was decided to make the Match a "rover" where each
competitor selects which peg that they will fish. First choice going to the lowest number drawn
etc.
The man with the golden arm, Dave Kimber , pulled out number one and Dave chose to fish peg
12, which was probably quite apt, as he'd spent half the
morning wedged in a bush cutting out the branches overhanging the peg!! . The strengthening wind, which
was blowing "off your back" on peg 12 also helped influence his decision. It turned
out to be a wise choice, after about an hour or so Dave hooked into a splendid Tench, which tipped the scales
at 5lb 5oz. Along with 2lb 2oz of Roach, Rudd and Perch, Dave's 7lb 7oz was way out in
front.
Mick Farmery and Mark Aitkins set their stall out to fish for
one, or perhaps two big fish. A tactic that quite often turns up
trumps on this venue, but this week, unfortunately, the big uns did not want to play.
It was left for myself and Keith Macfarlane to battle it out for
second place. The wind made bait presentation extremely difficult, and by feeding about four swims and rotating
between them I managed to winkle out 2lb of Roach and small Perch to just pip Keith for the second
prize.
