Reminders from our Water Officers
I received the following messages from Terry Branston regarding the club rules which some of our new
members may not be aware of:-
The
gates at all complexes are being left open. This, possibly, is something new members may not be
aware of, but the procedure when you close the lock is to hold it a closed position whilst you scramble
the tumblers. Just snapping it shut will not work.
The blue bins sited around
Lizzies Lake, Kilworth are for the disposal of rod and line caught Crayfish. It is against the law to
return Signal Crayfish back to the water, and the farmer does not want carcasses thrown around the lake on the
grass. We have noticed when the bins have been checked for Crayfish that people are using the bins for litter,
please refrain from this action and take your litter home with you for disposal.
Thank you
Terry Branston (Water
Officer)

Rothley Work Party
Rothley was the destination for the final work party of 2014, where the main action involved clearing swims on the
river and strimming the ever growing grass!! .
As stated earlier this was the final work party, mainly because of all of the hard work done previously by all of
the volunteers who turned up to help. There were good turn outs at all of the Sunday mornings and a great deal was
accomplished, as I'm sure you will notice when you visit the waters.
The Water Officers (Brian and Terry), the rest of the Committee and in fact all of the others members offer a great
big and a great deal of thanks to all those who helped out in any way
during the work party season.
The Work Party match was held on Smiggies Lake, and with only five anglers
wishing to fish it was just a top two payout.
Keith Macfarlane came first with 14lb 5oz from peg 24. Keith had a busy day as it was
mainly small Skimmers in the 4-6oz bracket. Most of his fish caught fishing the Pole at about eight meters using
single and double maggot on the hook and feeding maggot.
Next peg, 26, Dave Kimber took the runner-up spot with 10lb
8oz.

Barbed Hooks
We received the following message from James Crabtree today (7/6/14)
Just thought I'd drop you a line
after an evening on Jason's yesterday. I had a great evening, surface fishing for Carp and caught a fair few,
but one, a lovely Ghostie of about 8lb had not one, but two barbed hooks left in it - one around size 10,
and one bigger than that. It took the gloss a little bit off the evening that people flout such an easy to
understand rule.
It is very sad that some members are still using barbed hooks, which are banned on all of Broome A.S. still
waters (see club rule No.33). The use of barbed hooks will not be tolerated (except in the circumstances noted in
rule No.33) and anyone found to be using them will forfeit their membership and banned from the
club.
