Winter League Match Re-Arranged

While everyone else is busy cancelling their Fishing Matches for this weekend Keith has decided that this Sunday would be a good time to fish the Round Three Match of the Winter League ....The Match will be on Jasons Lake Sunday 12th Feb with the draw at 9am. Fishing will be 10am until 3pm.....Good luck .

Pike League Match Cancelled

The final Pike League Match will now take place on 18th March 2012. The Match was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday 12th Feb 2012, but, because of the Lakes at Frisby Complex being currently frozen over and no immediate prospect of any change this match has now been cancelled.

Winter League Match Cancelled

Because of the extreme weather experienced over the weekend, the Winter League Match, scheduled for 5th Feb 2012 on Jasons Lake, was cancelled. It hasn't yet been decided whether this Match will be re-scheduled. We will inform you, via the website, if and when this Match will now take place.

Sweepstake Match at Colver

With the temperatures dropping, once again, to coincide with the weekend the prospects didn't look too promising for the fourteen members who turned up to fish a Sweepstake Match on Colver last Sunday (29/1/12). With the return of frosty conditions, probably, the most surprising thing was that there was no ice on any of the Lakes.

As seems to happen quite frequently in the colder months, a lot of the action took place in the first hour of the Match. With the odd fish being caught, a few fish foul hooked and lost with the fish, seemingly, moving about trying to decide where to settle for the next few hours.

Well a 10lb'ish lump decided to settle in Jason Farmery's peg 40, but it didn't settle there for very long as Jay soon hooked the very welcome bonus and promptly slipped it into the keepnet for safe keeping . Jason added a few more smaller examples during the next three hours to finish the day with a 21lb 2oz winning weight.

Chris Shore, on end peg 46, spent a good couple of hours looking for some decent Carp toward the far bank without much success. A change to target small fish in the shallow water proved to be an inspired move. A succession of stockie Carp with a few Silver fish thrown in meant that Chris was the only angler in the Match who was catching reasonably well at the final whistle. Another half hour and he would have surely added enough to his 18lb 9oz second placed weight, to have passed Jason.

Third place went to Paul "Cookie" Cooke, courtesy of just 4oz, the amount he beat Section 2 winner Keith Macfarlane by... Paul and Keith pegged at either and of the Lake, Cookie on peg 18, with 14lb 14oz, just shading Keith on peg 3.

Club Chairman, Alan Smith, took Section 1 with 9lb 3oz... But that only tells half the story. Again, Alan asked me to draw his peg for him....and once again I picked out a flyer, peg 16!! (why can't I draw these pegs for myself??? ). Alan foul hooked. and lost, five or six good sized carp, which, if landed, would have won the day easily. As you can imagine he was getting plenty of "helpful " advice from Simon Pepper, Mick Farmery and Mark Aikins from the opposite bank . By the time Al had sorted it all out, and switched to his favourite, maggot, bait, the Carp had got fed up waiting and gone elsewhere in search of some delicious maggots......

Unusual River catch for Stephen

After reading Stephen Halfords story, below, do we, now, have to consider opening a Game fishing section??? .

I was fishing the River Soar at Rothley 22/1/12, catching only a few small roach on the pole, struggling with the strong wind I changed to a small feeder. I was rewarded with this Brown Trout around the one pound mark! The River at the moment is still fairly clear and not much of a flow despite the recent rainfall.
