Frisby Work Party
(20/5/12)
Last Sunday marked the halfway point of this years programme of Work Parties.
Again Frisby was the venue, with work carried out on Jasons Lake, Sanctuary and Colver Lake.

Two gents out for a pleasant days boating
It was the usual case on Jasons of pruning back the trees and bushes, clearing the paths,
clearing the swims and replacing missing "Cormorant Ropes"

Is that tea ready yet Brian?
A fence is being constructed around Sanctuary Lake (Similar to the
fence around Jasons) to prevent fish losses in the event of flooding. Colver Lake had a crew on the Island clearing
the overhanging greenery that love to eat floats . And many of the swims have been cut back to allow
easier access.

Health & safety issue's are always of prime
importance.....
A good turnout saw a great deal done. It's always good to see a few
new faces coming along to help out, so come along and lend a hand for a couple of hours...surely its better than
listening to Terry Wogan!!!

Hardly the Oxbridge boat race crew....but a good set of lads
willing to help make your fishery a better place to be
We will be at Frisby again this coming Sunday (27/5/12) so as usual this venue will be closed for fishing
until 1.00pm to all anglers, except those who have helped out. The sweepstake match for work party attendee's will
be on Jasons Lake.
The Work Party Sweepstake took place
on Smiggies lake this week and with only nine opting to fish, it gave everyone plenty of room. Phil Sansby took
advantage and at the final whistle took an impressive 40lb 6oz to the scales!! The best match weight from this lake
for many a year. It shows that the recent stocking seems to be having the desired effect. Phil fished most of the
match using Pole tactics, fished just at the bottom of the nearside shelf. A real mixed bag of Silvers, Tench,
Bream and just about everything that swims fell to Phil's worm and caster bait .
The "Cormorant" Chris Shore, with a
weight of 31lb 4oz from peg 29, must have thought that he would win, and so he would have done normally....It shows
how well Smiggies is fishing at the moment, that 30lb+ only gets the runner-up spot! Chris also opted for a worm
and caster approach but he elected to fish further out into the far side shallows. A good run of big Silvers in the
opening couple of hours was backed up by a constant stream of small Chub, Roach and Skimmers at almost a fish a
cast kept Cormorant busy all day.
Steve Beckhurst took Section 1 with
15lb from peg 1 and Section 2 went to Keith Macfarlane with 15lb 2oz from peg 22.

Frisby Work Party
(13/5/12)
The second of this years Work Parties took place at Frisby last Sunday
(13/5/12). there was a decent turnout of around thirty or so members. These hard workers got through a good deal of
work on Smiggies Lake and BJ's Lake. They even made a good start on this coming weeks project, Sanctuary. Many
thanks to those who helped out it is very much appreciated.
This week (20/5/12) the Work will, once again, be at Frisby Complex. So please remember that this
venue is closed to all members, who have not participated, until 1.00pm.
There was the usual "Knock-up" for all who are interested, and who have helped out. thirteen
decided to see what Colver had to offer, and there were some pretty reasonable weights on what was a blustery
day.
Young Troy Ward came out on top with a excellent performance to take 67lb 1oz from peg 14. Troy
caught well, down the inside edge for the majority of his catch using Pole with meat as hook bait. It's great to
see some younger members fishing the Matches and showing the more experienced anglers that there could well be
another "new kid on the block" . Well done Troy .
At the other end of there age scale Phil Sansby showed that he had fully recovered from a week of
alcohol fuelled revelry in a once quite part of the Netherlands . Phil finished just 5lb or so short of Troy on peg
5 with a 62lb 8oz net of Carp.
Den Porter, combined age with Phil of about 120 .... also showed that there is life in the old dogs
yet as he put 50lb 4oz on the scales to take 3rd place, again, a decent weight in the conditions.
44lb 7oz won Section 1, and it went to the "Cormorant" Chris Shore, roosting in his favourite
spot....peg 18 . The other young pretender, Club Champion, Steve
Kinch kept his eye in with a Section 2 winning 39lb 4oz from peg 33.

Meadow Lane, Syston
Sadly I received another, all to familiar, message from one of our Water
Officers Terry Branston...
Last Sunday saw the
first Work Party at Meadow Lane Syston. what we are going to do with this Lake as got to come up for
discussion!! It is blatantly obvious that the minority of members, once again, is spoiling it for the
majority.
First,
Security
Friday morning, the
gate wide open no one inside!
Saturday exactly the
same.
Sunday the same
again.
Leaving this gate
open it is as bad as telling poachers come in take the fish. And encouraging unwelcome visitors to our
property.
Second, Litter.
We removed five
large dustbin bags of rubbish within the compound, bags of cooking food tins, beer cans gas canisters, thrown
over the fence at the car park, which can only come from night fishers.
One bag of larger
cans, two curry tins etc stuffed in the lower branches of the tree on the car park between the two disabled
platforms.
Third, Fly
Tipping
To top everything
off a Flat screen JVC television dumped on the car park!!!
If this carries on
the fish will get stolen, and will have to be replaced. Members will complain that there are no fish to catch,
costing the club thousands each year in avoidable re-stocking.
If the gate, and
litter problems carry on we may have to contemplate banning night fishing, locking the gate and unlocking the
next morning with a keyed lock. This is a decision that the Committee may have to make to protect the clubs
stocks and assets.
