Went back to Kilworth on Sunday (14/12/14) after going on Saturday, only to find all the lakes frozen solid! Sunday
was much more successful. I fished on Lizzies Lake (surprise, surprise). All the fish, apart from the two biggest
Perch, were caught on my 5 metre whip using a combination of red maggots, bread flake and small pieces of prawn as
hook baits.
All
told, I had 13lbs 2oz of Perch, Roach and Rudd. The biggest Perch weighed 2lb 2oz. The next biggest one was
1lb 7oz. These two were caught on float paternoster fished live baits using a split cane rod, given to me
by Broome Match Secretary, Keith Macfarlane. Cheers Keith! I coupled this with a closed face Abu Garcia reel
loaded with 5lb line, mainly because it was blowing a gale all day. (And it would have been sacrilege to put a
Shimano Aero on it!)
.
Been to Kilworth fishing on Lizzies recently (28.9.14). Had these two perch on prawns using the ‘pin as usual. The
first weighed 2lb 2oz and the second was 1lb 13oz. Also had two nice mirrors as a bit of a bonus. One fell to the
float fished prawn, the other took a hard pellet fished in a solid PVA bag of pellets on my ‘sleeper’
rod
Went over
to Kilworth for a few hours on Sunday 18th May. Took my wife out with me and met Shawn over there
too.
Fished up on Lizzies and had a couple of Perch up to about 8oz. The big ones were elusive
to say the least. Maybe it was the bright sun or maybe it was down to the Carp beating me up?? Also caught two
small Tench of about 12oz-1lb and a couple of Carp, one of approx. 5lb.
The pictured one went 8lb 7oz. All caught on my new/old split cane rod coupled with the
‘pin using the ever faithful prawn hook baits. My wife also took some nice ‘action shots’ which I thought look
pretty good.
