Message from the Environment Agency
We anglers, it seems,
are on the front line when it comes to safeguarding our water ways. Water Officer Terry Branston asked me to pass
on this message he has recently received from the environment agency.

Stop quagga mussels spreading: check, clean, dry
Anglers have already helped to slow the spread of the ‘killer shrimp’. Now there’s a new alien
species threatening the places you love to fish: the quagga mussel.
|
|
|
The mussels from south-east Europe have been found in Wraysbury Reservoir in
Surrey. They smother hard surfaces, block water intakes and change the natural
balance of rivers and lakes. If we’re not careful they could spread to other
fisheries.
Please check, clean and dry your
tackle every time you go fishing to help stop quagga mussels
and other invasive species from spreading.

Please ensure all keep
nets, and landing nets, waders etc. Have been washed with clean running water and completely dry before going
fishing again even if it is to the same water.
Thank
you

Chairmans League Venue Change
Round three of this
years Chairmans League will now be fished on Jasons Lake. The Match will still take place on 9/11/14. The Lake
will be closed to all other members on this day. The original venue, Smiggies Lake, will now be open to all members
on that day. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Sweepstake at Hill Farm
With news that there
were a lot of small Carp showing at Hill Farm some of the Match men decided to have a sweepstake match on the
lake. Sadly it did not fish as well as expected. It was decided, before the start, that any large Carp caught
would just count as 8oz. In fact it was mainly small Roach that were caught !!
Phil Sansby came out
on top with 4lb 6oz. his weight consisted of two big Carp that counted 1lb plus 3lb 6oz of small fish. Malc Spring
took the big fish route and in nearly paid off!!! He netted seven big Carp which counted as 3lb 8oz and a few small
Roach giving him second place with 3lb 10oz. Third place went to Kev Harty with 2lb 8oz of silver fish, with
Keith Macfarlane netting 1lb 9oz of tiny Roach for fourth.

Sad news
Sadly we heard
yesterday of the sudden passing of one of our members Mick Knight. Mick used to enjoy fishing the
Broome matches with his good mate Malc Spring. He will be sadly missed by all of his mates at Broome and we
would like to pass on our sincere condolences to all of his family and friends at this sad
time.

Weed Clearing at Frisby
As most of you may be
aware, we have hired a specialist weed removal company to carry out work at Frisby
Complex to, hopefully, give a long term solution to the weed problem that has cropped up this season.
The work will commence on:
1st October on Jurassic Lake
2nd October on Sanctuary Lake
3rd October on Smiggies Lake
The lakes to be cleared will be closed for any fishing on these dates. Please be aware that if
they finish working on a lake early they will be moving on to the next lake to carry on with the weed clearing
operation and any one fishing will be asked to move.
BJ's, Colver and Jasons are not affected and these lakes will remain open as normal whilst the
work takes place.
If any one wants to come down to Frisby to help with the weed clearing it will very much
appreciated, just contact Terry Branston or Brian Toon.
