Colver
Sweepstake
Eight Members fished a Sweepstake Match on Colver Lake last Sunday
(28/10/12). After the coldest night since last winter, a full moon the previous evening, the lake looking clearer
than it has done for many a month.....the prospects weren't to promising!!! . With just three pleasure anglers fishing Colver,
in the early pegs, the eight decided on trying the southern end of the lake. As what normally happens when the
weather starts to put it's winter coat on; it was three of the four end pegs that produced the top
weights.
Barry Crane on end peg 29 had the outstanding weight of the day with 35lb 4oz. Barry took a mixed
catch of Carp, Skimmers, Silver fish and a few small "stockie" Carp. He caught from the early stages and had three
fish in the net before anyone else had had a bite! A steady succession of fish followed for the duration, mostly
caught presenting a Pole fished bait about 18 inches from the far bank.
The ever reliable winter peg, peg 18, provided Den Porter with the runner-up spot. Den netted
twenty or so small Carp fishing tight to the near side lily pads. All of his 19lb 12oz falling to soft pellet,
fished on the Pole.
After a very slow start, Chris "Cormorant" Shore started catching in the last two hours. A couple
of decent Chub started him off, and were followed by Skimmer Bream and a decent Carp, late on, to take Section 1
with 11lb 12oz. Chris Lee taking Section 2 from peg 21 with just 8lb 4oz shows how tough a day it was. Nobody else
in the match breaking double figures, shows that, possibly the weather had the last laugh!

Away day Peatling Boat
Lake
Thirteen of the regular Match Anglers arranged a day out on Peatling
Fisheries "Boat Lake A" last Sunday. After a pretty cold start, with a hard frost, made for a slow first half with
the fish showing more of an interest in the second half of the competition.
Enjoying a good run of form throughout the last few matches Keith Macfarlane kept his run going
with another place at top of the podium . a level 50lb of Carp from peg 27, with the
biggest touching 12lb was enough to take the spoils. Keith netted a couple on the tip in the earlier stages.
But it was the change in tactics to a Pole approach that paid dividends. He started catching at about
5-6metres, and in the last hour his edge swim kept the fish coming, including the 12lb bonus.
Simon Pepper netted another good bonus fish of just over 13lb that helped to push his final tally
up to 31lb and claim the runner-up spot. Again it was an all Carp net, Simon employing similar tactics to
Keith.
Third place went to Mark Aikins from the enigmatic peg 30....A peg in the corner of the Lake
where the Carp can quite often congregate, but just as frequently it can be totally devoid of aquatic life!!
. Mark managed to find nine Carp on the Pole for
27lb 4oz, with most of his fish coming in the latter part of the day.
Section 1 went to Paul Edwards with 24lb 2oz from peg 28, and with the same weight of 24lb 2oz
Steve Kinch claimed Section 2 from peg 41.

Wrist Watch
Lost
Can anyone help
Den Porter?? A good question some might say! But seriously Den was fishing last Tuesday
(2/10/12) on Jasons Lake. Whilst packing away his gear after a pleasure fishing session, Den dropped his Wrist
Watch into his bag, or so he thought! When he got home, sadly, the Watch, a recent present from his good lady,
was nowhere to be found. The Watch is a "Railway Watch" with black straps and was lost somewhere around Jasons
and the route back to the car park. If you do happen to find it please let me know at webmaster@broomeanglingsociety.co.uk and I will put you in
touch with Den.

Pellet use
on Broome A.S. Waters (9/9/12)
There seems to be some confusion by some members regarding the use of Pellets as bait on Broome
A.S. waters. Below is a copy of a news item first published on 24th April 2011, and is still visible in
the 2011 news archive. Please note that these rules were voted for
by the members at the 2011 AGM and they still apply.
After a good debate at this years AGM it was voted by the
members present at the meeting that as from 12.00pm 24/4/2011, Coarse Fish Pellets (only), would be allowed
on all of Broome AS Waters. the vote was approximately 80% for, 20% against.
High Oil Pellets, such as Halibut Pellets and Trout Pellets
will, however, not be allowed. Various studies have shown that high oil pellets can cause damage to coarse fish as
they find them indigestible. If you choose to use pellets please respect the decision of the majority of the
membership, and use only coarse fish (low oil) pellets.
