Many thanks to Pete Felstead for his excellent Pike Match Report
Round One
Well it was a
bit of a shock to the system with the crazy, warm weather we have been having to waking up to a first frost of
the year! Car windscreen scraped and off to the match with a blue sky forecast and frost on the
grass.
It was good
to catch up with all the old faces again and chat on how the summer fishing had gone. Well, draw made, and we
headed to our chosen swims wrapped up for some proper Piking weather!
The mist lay
heavy on the water as the sound of baits being cast started the match.
First in was
Tom with a 5lb fish and what I thought was going to be a hard day surprised us as fish started coming on regular
intervals along the bank of Jurassic. Guntis had one at 6lb 11oz that with the help of Tomas netting it put him
in the lead for a while. Alex was in next then Jason.
By
10am if you were on the sunny side of Jurassic it was warming up and winter gear was coming off but on the other
side of the lake it was still cold!!
I watch Alex
get his next fish just over the lip off his landing net only for the hook hold give way and it was gone!! The
photo shows how close it was, and he didn’t even swear! That may of
cost him the match but that’s fishing.
I was in the
next swim to Mick Farmery when I had my fish 4lb 11oz and was taking it round to Mick for a photo only for him
to be into a nice size Pike too so I rested my fish so we could have a rare photo of us with Two Pike on the
bank at the same time. Micks fish was the biggest of the day.
At the
final whistle put him into second place at 8lb 14oz to make a Farmery job lot with Jason’s two fish giving him
first place with 9lb 14oz.
