There was a good turnout at the Frisby Work Party with great progress made on improving the pegs and slabs around Jasons Lake, in particular. This was the final Work Party of this season and once again many thanks to all those that have attended. It has made a real difference to the Fishery. There were six who took part in the match, on Colver, after the work was completed. Steve Beckhurst won the day with 76lb 12oz from peg 7. Second place went to Paul Slatcher, on peg 43, with 62lb 9oz. New Member, Neil Salt, coming in a creditable third with his first day on Colver with 44lb 13oz from peg 37.
The weed that was threatening to envelope Buffalo Loop and Admirals Lake at Kilworth Complex had the treatment from the professional weed cutting contractors on Thursday 11th June. We have Terry Branston to thank for overseeing the work and providing the pictures.
This week’s cost cutter match was held on Colver lake. It goes without saying that the weather was atrocious as usual. Never stopped raining throughout the whole match. Rob Smith won again with 64lb 1oz followed by Mick Farmery with 38lb 3oz and Mick Nash with 38lb. 7 fished
Broome Membership Secretary, Malcolm Shooter, Has asked me to inform everyone that Broome has now reached the cut off number of 850 members for the 2026-27 season. No further applications will be accepted. Therefore any existing Members who have not re-joined will have to wait until the 2027-28 season if they wish to join.
This week’s cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. Due to the adverse weather conditions, we pegged all around the top bend to get as much out of the wind as possible. This did adversely affect the weights. Mick Farmery again came out on top with 28lb 10oz followed by Den Porter with 26lb 3oz and Mick Nash with 12lb 3oz. The 2 end pegs finished first and second. 7 fished. Next week’s match is on Colver.
An update for members on the path around Colver. Because of the committments of the Contractor it has been decided to start the work on the 29th June. He couldn’t start for a couple of weeks and we didn’t want to risk clashing with other events already planned for Colver. The contactor has told us that he is now committed to that date.
Thanks to all that turned out on Sunday morning for the Frisby work party. there was a good amount of work completed on most of the lakes with quite a lot of slab adjustment on Smiggies and on Colver.
The disabled pegs on Colver have been made more accessable.
The Island on Colver has been given a good haircut.
The next Workparty will be on Kilworth Complex next Sunday 7th June Please turn up if you can spare a couple of hours it really makes a difference to what can be achieved.
The after work Match was held on Jasons and Paul Slatcher won with the outstanding weigh of 161lb 15oz from peg 14. Baz Johnson second with 41lb 13oz from peg 10. Third was Gaz Goowin from peg 17 with 22lb 13oz. Keith Macfarlane, totally knackered after his work on the Island, fourth with 19lb 4oz.
The Chairman, Alan Smith, has asked me to let members know that Colver Lake is going to have a “Hard Standing” path about 1.5meters wide installed around the whole lake. This is going to be started in the very near future, (either Monday 1st June or the following week depending on the contractor finishing his current contracts) We have asked if he can do one side at a time so that Members will be able to carry on fishing on one side of the lake whilst the work is ongoing. But there will be obvious disruption to some extent so please be patient. We have been told that the work should take around seven days or so to complete.
Futhermore we are asking Members not to use the first small car park opposite Sanctuary, as the contactor will need access so that he can store the spoil on the ground behind it.
