Sunday 13th April 2014
On Sunday 13th April, Shawn
and Tom fished at Frisby and undertook their first joint challenge, the match. After a walk
round Colver, they decided on pegs 42 to 44 inclusive as their choices, enabling them to put a
swim between them. Tom won the coin toss with a call of tails, and chose peg 42, putting Shawn on peg
44.
Things began really well
with Tom landing his first fish within the first ten minutes, quickly followed by Shawn landing his.
Unfortunately, Shawn’s second bite resulted in a break off and he was forced
to re-tackle, after which, his swim seemed to die. Tom continued on and landed another three fish
over the next 45 minutes, all falling to flat method feeder tactics with Marukyu JPZ hook
baits. After this, his swim went as
quiet as Shawn’s had gone, and it took Tom the next two and a half hours of the five hour
match to land two more fish. The last hour and a half of the match did not bring any bites for either
angler.
By the end, Tom
had six carp in the net and Shawn had failed to increase his tally from one. They estimated Shawn’s fish
at 8oz and then weighed Tom’s catch to record a winning weight of just 15lb
1oz.
As a result of the match,
the first point to go on the board is awarded to Tom. The score is now 1-0 in Tom’s
favour.
