Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 28/12/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. As usual the weather was horrendous with driving rain and gale force winds throughout the day. Mick Nash won the day with 3lb followed by Mick Farmery with 2lb 12oz and yours truly with 2lb 10oz.

Next week’s match will be on either BJs or Sanctuary depending on the weather.

Cost Cutter Match Colver Lake 21/12/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a wild and windy Colver lake (silver fish only). Due to the conditions fishing a long pole was out of the question, so under the circumstance’s weights were not too bad. Chris Shore came out on top with 10lb 2oz, followed by Mick Norton with 7lb 15oz and third Mick Farmery with 7lb 10oz. Weights were very close as the bottom weight was over 6lb.

Next week’s match is on Smiggies lake.

Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 14/12/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a flooded Smiggies lake. Those fishing had to sit almost on the car park and track around the lake.

Dave Kimber managed a few Ide for 5lb 10oz and the win. Alan Brightwell finished second with 3lb and Chris Shore third with 2lb 5oz.

Next week’s match will be silver fish only on Colver.

Cost Cutter Match Colver Lake 7/12/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a wet and windy Colver lake (no change there then). Silver fish only match. Alan Brightwell came out on top with 7lb 15oz, followed by Mick Farmery with 3lb 12oz and third Mick Nash with 2lb 12oz.

Next week’s match will be on Smiggies

Cost Cutter Match Sanctuary Lake 30/11/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a bitterly cold frosty Sanctuary lake. Expectations were very low due to the weather and so it proved to be. The draw bag wizard Mick Nash drew the peg everyone wanted as it had thrown up a few fish in the week, but he had to share first place today with Chris Shaw, both weighing a massive 14oz each. Mick Farmery took third with 8oz.

Next week’s match is on Colver, silver fish only.

Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 23/11/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a windswept Smiggies lake. The draw bag wizard did it again. Mick Nash drew THE peg and made no mistake banking 9lb 12oz for the win. Second was Chris Shore with 7lb 13oz thanks to a bonus Tench landed just before the end just edging out Dave Kimber with 7lb 12oz.

Next week’s match is hopefully on Sanctuary depending on the number attending.

Cost Cutter Match Jasons Lake 16/11/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Jason's lake. The threatened rain held off until the final whistle but we all still got soaked whilst packing up. Things never change. That drawbag wizard Mick Nash again came out on top with 47lb 5oz with second going to Rob Smith with 19lb 12oz. Section 1 was won by Alan Brightwell with 17lb 5oz and section 2 by Mick Norton with 13lb 6oz.

Next week’s match was supposed to be on Sanctuary, but due to increasing numbers it has been switched to Smiggies.

Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 9/11/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. A bitterly cold wind blew down the lake all day resulting in many anglers struggling for bites. Mick Nash managed to find a few fish for 14lb 12oz and second place went to Dave Kimber with 9lb 1oz. Section 1 was won by Chris Shore with 2lb 4oz and section 2 by Mick Farmery with 5lb 6oz.

Next week’s match is on Jasons.

 Stocking 8/11/23

Further stocking has taken place today on our waters. £1000 worth of Ide have been introduced at Frisby, split between Smiggies and Sanctuary, and £500 of Tench plus £500 of Skimmers have been stocked into Admirals at Kilworth.

Sad News

We have heard the sad news that one of our long time members Terry Adams has, sadly, passed away. Terry had been a member of Broome AS for over 35 years and loved his early morning sessions on Colver. Our condolences go out to Terry's friends and family at this difficult time, he will be sadly missed.

For anyone wanting to attend, Terry's funeral will be held at Loughborough Crematorium at 10.15am on Friday 8th September.

Caught, on Jurassic, whilst fishing a small spoon on a tiny lure rod, giving him one heck of a fight!!

Pauls Happy Return

Paul Harley has just re-joined Broome and has been rewarded with these two fish

pha01 pha01

I have just re-joined the club after a 20 year break. I am very impressed by the fishing. And the condition of the fish particularly in Jurassic and Jason’s lake. I really enjoy my short, targeted sessions in the week.

Found Tackle 5/7/23

Member Tom Kent found a Rod Band and Tip/Butt protector at Frisby Complex, close to Jurassic Lake. If you think it may be yours then get in touch with me on the website or telephone and I will put you in touch with Tom.

Knock up Match Holly Farm, Gils Lake

Six members held an impromptu Knock up on Gills Lake ay Holly Farm on Sunday  and it turned out to be a good idea as there were some good weights recorded. Paul Edwards won the day with 149lb 7oz from peg 43. Not too far behind was Gavin Norton on peg 33 with 129lb. With Den Porter also nor far from the "ton" with 92lb from peg 37.

All Night Match Cancelled 2/7/23

Due to a lack of intrest the "Annual All Night Match" was cancelled. The committee will be reviewing whether to remove this event from the future Match Programme as participation has been dwindling over recent seasons.

Found Tackle 27/6/23

Member, Philip Hughes, has pulled out a three section Pole whilst fishing on Lizzies Lake at Kilworth Sticks. It was around peg 14 /15 area. If you think it might be yours please get in touch and I will help to get you re-united with your kit.

Lost Tackle 25/6/23

An update to this story Rick emailed me yesterday to let me know that someone has found his tackle and returned it safely to him. He expresses his thanks to all concerned with the help he has received.

One of our members, Rick Talbott, had an unfortunate experience whilst on a session at Kilworth Sticks last Wednesday evening. I'll let Rick explain....

Fishing last evening around 7:30pm on Currans Loop peg 17

I was fishing Running Lead Rig with ledger stop method.

Suddenly, my 10’ Carp Feeder rod along with Bait Runner reel was violently snatched from the 2 rod rests I was using. I immediately made a grab for the rod, but the fish had the better of me and before I could take any other action the rod disappeared out of view. I tried without success using my landing net handle to scoop up the fishing line but to no avail.

I spent time walking around Currans Loop to see if any obvious signs of the rod/fish were visible but no joy.

Found Tackle 19/6/23

On Sundays Match on Colver Geoff Harper fished out a rod and reel from around peg 44. Apparently it looked as if it may have been in there for some time. Match Secretary, Keith Macfarlane now has it so if you think it may be yours get in touch with Keith and he will return it to you. Keiths number  is in your membership book.

Frisby Work Party 11/6/23

It was once again a disappointing turn out for the final Work Party of the season at Frisby. But again those that turned up worked very hard. There was a lot of weed removed on Sanctuary. Jurassic had swims and tree's cleared, and various other jobs completed.

Although turnouts have been largely disappointing, those who have turned out over the season have accomplished quite a lot and we thank you for all of your hard work.

There were only three who fished the after work knock up on Colver. Keith Macfarlane winning with 73lb 2oz from peg 3. Second was Rob Smith with 64lb 6oz from peg 5.

Kilworth Work Party 4/6/23

It was very disapointing that there only six members turn up to the Kilworth work party. Out of a membership of almost 800, its not a very good showing. Please don't complain if you go to fish the venue and there is a lot of weed present or overhanging vegitation is snagging your line as with such a low turn out of helpers it is impossible to get all the work that is required, done.

However, those few who did turn out worked very hard and we are very grateful for their efforts. Thank you.

There were just two Members who stayed on to fish after the work finished. And it turned out well with Steve Harrison netting 128lb from peg 12 on Lizzies and Keith Macfarlane on peg 21 with 62lb.

Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 1/6/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. Mick Nash was the runaway winner with 18lb 6oz ahead of Mick Farmery with 9lb 11oz and yours truly with 4lb 15oz.

Alan is not not available now until October there will be no more reports until then but some of the members will still be running the matches in the meantime. Next week’s match will be on Frisby lake

Frisby Work Party 28/5/23

Many thanks to all those who attended the latest Frisby Work Party. Thanks also for all the work that has been completed it really does make a huge difference when we get a good turn out at the work parties.

Above are some pictures of Colver with the Island having had a good clean up.

280523wp04

Above is our Match Secretary, Keith Macfarlane, after a slip in the boat left him with the choice of going in the lake or smacking his chin on the bank. As he has long since stopped entering beauty contests he elected for the smack on the chin!!...OUCH.

In the match that followed the work Jason Farmery drew peg 17 on Jasons lake and bagged a brilliant 100lb 2oz with 37lb of them silver fish. Rob Smith finished in second place on peg 19 with 61lb 7oz.

Kilworth Work Party 21/5/23

Many thanks to all those who attended the Kilworth Work Party. Thanks also for all the work that has been completed it really does make a huge difference when we get a good turn out at the work parties.

In the match that followed the work Paul Slatcher came out top on Currans Loop. Paul netted 51lb 15oz from peg 22 more than the rest put together!! It probably helped that, it seems, most of the fish were at that end as George Pratt took second place from the next peg, 20, with 20lb 11oz.

Cost Cutter Match Frisby Water Park 11/5/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Frisby Lake. Rob Smith again took the honours with 29lb 14oz, followed by Mick Nash with 14lb 8oz, and Mick Farmery with an all roach and Rudd catch of 11lb. Yours truly managed 70 roach for 8lb+ but no bonus fish to boost the weight.

Next week’s match is on Colver or Jasons.

Cost Cutter Match Smiggies Lake 3/5/23

Due to popular demand the cost cutter matches will carry on for a few more weeks.

This week’s match was held on a chilly and blustery Smiggies lake, which made presentation extremely difficult. Rob Smith came out on top with 8lb 12oz, followed by Mick Nash with 7lb 13oz and Mick Farmery with 7lb 4oz.

Next week’s match will be on Frisby Lake.

Away Day Match Plough & Harrow 30/4/23

Twelve Members took part in the latest Away Day Match. The match was split across two lakes, Plough and Harrow at Peatling Fisheries. Both lakes fished very well with over 4olb being the lowest weight.

Graham Elliot took top weight on Plough with 134lb 10oz from peg 11. Second place going to Alan Whale, on peg 17, with 104lb.

On Harrow it was Paul Edwards who took the honours with a magnificent 145lb 10 oz from peg 3. Due to Paul Slatcher going over the permitted weight limit and forfeiting a net of 65lb 1oz which would have given him a total of 143lb 7oz, it was Shaun Carey who finished second with 130lb 4oz from peg 13.

Cost Cutter Match BJ's Lake 27/4/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on BJ’s lake. Rob Smith came out on top with 14lb and Mick Nash was runner up with 6lb. Sorry the results are a little patchy but I was unable to attend due to other commitments.

Next week’s match will be on BJ’s.

 Cost Cutter Match Smiggies 13/4/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. In what was a close match, Mick Nash came out on top with 16lb 10oz, followed by Dave Kimber with 16lb, Chris Shore with 10lb 7oz and Dave Hunt with 9lb 13oz.

Next week’s match will be on Jasons.

 Cost Cutter Match Colver 30/3/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Colver lake. Chris Shore came out on top with 35lb 6oz, followed by Rob Smith with 18lb 2oz and Mick Farmery on 17lb 14oz.

No match next week as it clashes with Age Concern AGM and the week after the match will be on Smiggies.

Away Day Match 26/3/23

Thirteen Members took part in the latest Away Day Match. The popular Gils lake at Holly Farm was the venue, and again, it came up trumps with some good weights for the time of year.

Phil Dayman drawn on peg 9 was top weight on the day with 83lb 5oz from peg 9. Closely followed by Gavin Norton who put 80lb 14oz on the scales to take second place from peg 22.

Den Porter with 71lb 10oz from peg 6 and Shaun Carey on peg 49 with 73lb 4oz were the two section winners.

Cost Cutter Match Jasons 23/3/23

Thursdays cost cutter match was held on Jasons Lake. Mick Farmery finished in top spot with 24lb 7oz. Den Porte  was close behind in second place with 22lb 12oz, with Mick Nash coming in third weighing in 20lb 1oz.

Next weeks match will be on Colver.

Cost Cutter Match

Chris Shore will run the next, over 60's, Cost Cutter Match. The venue will be Jasons Lake, draw at 9.00am Thursday 23rd March.

Away Day Match 12/3/23

A good turnout of fourteen attended the latest Broome Away Day. The venue was Gils Lake at Holly Farm. A very clear looking lake did not inspire a great deal of confidence in most of the competitors, but in spite of this the lake fished pretty well.

Steve Beckhurst was top weight on the day with a mixed catch of F1's and Carp for 65lb 13oz from peg 24. Second place was very close, with Julian Stretton pipping it with 45lb 14oz from peg 49. Just a few ounce behind on peg 5 was Paul Slatcher with 44lb 6oz.

Malc Spring, 40lb 14oz, peg 8 and Shaun Carey 42lb 11oz peg 32 took the Section Prizes.

 Help Needed!!

We are expecting a delivery of 500lb of roach at Kilworth this coming Friday afternoon (10/3/2023) and need a few people to help transfer the fish from the wagon to the lakes. Any help from members would be very much appreciated.

Cost Cutter Match 2/3/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on a cold and windswept Smiggies lake (usual conditions for a Thursday). Winner on the day, and miles in front, was Rob Smith with 17lb 4oz. Second was Mick Nash with 5lb 2oz and third Dave Kimber with 4lb 4oz.

Next week’s match is on Jurassic.

Away Day Match 26/2/23

Eleven members went on the first away day match at Peatling Pools, Plough Lake. By all accounts it was a pretty tough day, not helped by the biting wind!!

Gavin Norton was top man on the day with 35lb 7oz from peg 20. Second was Graham Elliot, on peg 8, with 29lb 10oz, with Shaun Carey coming in 3rd weighing in with 28lb 8oz from peg 24.

Cost Cutter Match 23/2/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Jason's lake. Weather wise it was a much better day apart from a cold wind blowing across the lake. The framers today all decided to take the "mickey" as joint winners with 15lb 6oz were "Mick" Norton and "Mick" Nash. In third place with 14lb 2oz was "Mick" Farmery.

Next week’s match is on Smiggies.

 Cost Cutter Match 16/2/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Sanctuary lake. Having been partly frozen yesterday after the early morning frost no-one expected many fish to be caught, and yet again this proved to be the case. Draw bag Chris Shore won the day with 4lb 13oz followed by yours truly with 3lb 14oz and Alan Brightwell with 3lb 8oz.

Next week’s match will be on Jasons.

Pike Match Date change

Due to unforeseen circumstances the sixth and final round of this seasons Pike League will now take place on the 5th of March and NOT the 12th as is stated in your membership book. Therefore Jurassic Lake will now be open to all members on the 12th March 2023 but closed for the Pike League Match on the 5th March 2023.

For any further clarification please contact Pete Felstead. (Pete's number is in your membership book).

Cost Cutter Match 9/2/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Colver lake. Although iced up at the start it quickly melted by mid-morning. However, as is usual on a Thursday, bites were hard to come by and most people struggled. Rob Smith won the day with 7lb 8oz followed by Chris Shore with 4lb 13oz and Den Porter with 4lb 10oz.

Next week’s match is on Sanctuary.

  Cost Cutter Match 2/2/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held Smiggies lake. Although the temperature was warmer than of late, there was still a bitterly cold wind blowing down the lake which badly affected catches yet again. It took only 2lb 10oz to win the day for Dave Hunt, followed by in joint second place with 1lb 9oz were Rob Smith and Chris Shore.

Next week’s match will be on Colver.

Cost Cutter Match 26/1/23

This week’s cost cutter match was held on Jason's lake on yet another bitterly cold day. The ice took some breaking as it was still thick in many places. The match was eventually won by Mick Farmery with 16lb 15oz, second Kevin Hirons with 7lb 3oz and third Rob Smith with 5lb 6oz.

Next weeks match is on Smiggies.

Cost Cutter Match 19/1/23

Another Thursday, another cost cutter match and another bitterly cold day. The match was held on Sanctuary, and after breaking the ice everyone settled down to what was expected to be a grueller. Not disappointed as Kevin Hirons came out on top with 8oz, followed by Mick Farmery on 3oz and Mick Nash on 2oz.

Next week’s match is on Jasons.

Cost Cutter Match 12/1/23

Thursdays cost cutter match was held on Smiggies lake. As it was a dry, mild, day everyone expected catches to be good, but the fish had other ideas. It turned out to be rock hard, with Mick Nash coming out on top with 3lb 5oz. Rob Smith managed second with 2lb 9oz and Alan Smith scraped into third with 1lb 15oz.

Next weeks’ match will be on Colver.
