Ice makes a comeback!

Just when we thought we were in for a spell of milder weather, once again the Ice Breakers made an unwelcome comeback! The Winter Leaguers were faced with a frozen Jasons Lake and, again, the now well practiced art of swinging the lead was required . Thankfully the ice was pretty thin in comparison to what has been faced in the recent past and the fishing could get underway without to much of a delay.

Predictably, though, the sudden drop in temperature had a distinct effect on the sport and it was pretty tough going for most. On the bright side at least one or two Carp are showing signs of interest and a few of the recently stocked Skimmers made an appearance.

One Carp that did make an appearance fell to Mark Aitkins. Mark hadn't had a bite all day so to ease the boredom he removed his bait from the water, layed his Pole on the bank and went for a chat with one of his fellow strugglers on the next peg. To prove that "resting your swim" sometimes does work, first put-in on returning to his peg Mark hooked into a 7lb 2oz beauty that won the match on its own!!!...Thanks very much .

Taking a more conventional approach on peg 4 was Mick Farmery who landed two Carp for 6lb 10oz and second place, Mick also hooked and lost another two Carp that would have easily won him the competition if landed. Peg 4 is notorious for losing fish as often your float needs to be right up against the reeds in order to tempt the cunning rascals...

Simon Pepper could have had another couple of hours in bed as he didn't have a bite until the final stages of the match....In the last hour he managed to loose two good Carp, and with the very last put-in he contacted with a nice 4lb 8oz fish to just nick third place, prooving that it aint over till the fat lady sings (if I'm still allowed to quote that phrase in these politically correct times...)

Section 1 went to Chris "Cormorant" Shore, who like most of the money winners hooked a bonus Carp, and along with a small Perch, Chris weighed in with 3lb 8oz.

Kev Hyrons took, probably, the most interesting Section from peg 15, Kev netted 2lb 12oz of Skimmers. With the anglers on pegs 12 and 13 also catching above 2lb of Skimmers each it was nip and tuck right to the final whistle who would come out on top.
