Bites at a premium on Jasons

The Penultimate round of this seasons Winter League, once again, proved to be a very tough affair for most. Looking at the results above, unfortunately, does not paint a true picture of the reality!

Match winner, Den Porter, was the only angler to catch with any regularity. Den took all of the usual "stick" at the draw, when for the second match in succession he pulled out the potential match winning peg....Last week end peg 21 on Colver, this week the "hot favorite" peg 4. Not that it bothered Den to much . Still, as we all know, the pegs don't fish themselves....the fish still have to be caught. But when handed the opportunity, Den will usually come up with the goods! It didn't take long to get into the action as Den was netting a Carp inside the first half hour and without ever having a really good or bad period he landed a steady fifteen, or so, carp to take top prize with 46lb 15oz.

The club record holder for being the last person to set up, Keith Macfarlane , never actually thought that being a slowcoach could be used as a tactic. But...with the "all-in" already about ten minutes late, Match Secretary, Keith, felt compelled to fire the starting pistol even though he, himself, was not ready. Keith thought he would sling in the feeder whilst he finished setting up his thirty seventh Pole rig.... What a tactic it proved to be!!! Within five minutes his tip had bent double and a 5lb Carp felt a landing net slip beneath its belly ....Hmm I'd best try that again, thought Keith...lo and behold, this time its big brother a specimen of around 8lb decided to keep his mate company in Keiths keep net . The first half hour saw him with 13lb 9oz in the net, the next five and half hours saw not one more fish added! Every one of the thirty seven Pole rigs failing miserably . Keith had the last laugh though taking home second prize for his half hours sport.

Third placed Simon Pepper landed an impressive looking 9lb 14oz catch....Sadly though it comprised of just one fish! a fine beast though it was!! Simon did well to land the monster as he was fishing for Silvers at the time with light line and light elastic on the Pole. It was a similar story for most, with just one big fish and a couple of tiddlers making up the majority of catches...And most of those were caught in the first hour.

Once again Alan Smith got down on his hands and knees and begged me to draw his peg for him . And once again, soft hearted fool that I am , I took pity on the "old timer", and once again I pulled him out a "flyer", and once again he won his section.....I really am going to start charging soon .

Phil Dayman netted one decent Carp and four or five silver fish to take section 2 with 5lb 5oz. Phil Sansby also landed a 5lb+ Carp and along with 3-4lb of Silver fish Phil probably caught as many fish as everyone else, with the exception of Den, put together!
