Colver Returning to Form

Round five of this seasons Winter League saw a welcome return to form for Colver Lake. After a week of spring like weather sunday, once again, reminded us that we are still in February!! A dreary, cold, rainy day was lightened by some pretty decent fishing for the time of year. It has been the end pegs that usually dominate the matches right up to, well into, spring/early summer. It seems as if the fish have moved early this year as none of the end pegs provided any money winners.

Den Porter netted twenty three Carp to record a Match winning weight of 52lb 12oz from peg 5. Den fished Long Pole to the far bank with bread on the hook, and caught steadily all day...It was quite a strange match as some of the anglers caught very early on, and some struggled for a bite in the first couple of hours. Those that did catch early hardly had a bite after the initial surge!

"Cormorant" Chris Shore, was one who caught slowly, but steadily throughout the day. His catch rate, however, increased in the last hour to give Cormorant a second placed total of 46lb 8oz. Chris also had the majority of his Carp on bread. Yours truly was one of those who struggled for a bite in the early stages of the competition,  I had six small carp and about 2lb of silver fish going into the last hour and half. A switch to the inside line proved to be a successful tactic as a further ten decent sized Carp from that line boosted my weight to a third placed 35lb 12oz.

Mick Farmery started the Match as if was aiming for 100lb+. Every time I looked up Mick was netting another Carp....It all ended, though, an hour and half into the Match and he couldn't get a bite!!! So it continued throughout the day, Mick spent the last four and half hours without a bite...The early catch, though, was still enough to take Section 1 with 16lb 12oz. Cookie on peg 23, suffered a similar fate to Mick, an early "baggin session" abruptly came to an end... Paul did manage to net an odd fish through the day, though, and took Section 2 with 32lb.
