Pike League 10/11/24

Jurassic

Round 2

The pressure was on for all of us to repeat the performance of last month’s match with over thirteen Pike coming out!  But the only pressure was the weather (high pressure) and it obviously didn’t suit the fishing.

With that long spell of dry weather, the water clarity was clear, and I thought it would be ideal for lure fishing! “But hey what do I know.” It started well for me with my first fish on the bank with in 5 cast of the start of the match on a Fire Tiger, homemade, tied jig fly, but at 2lb 4oz it wasn’t a game changer.

Unlike last time there was no early action for rest of the gang. Time slipped by and we started moving swims. Jamie had stayed close by a overhanging bush where there were fish topping and Steve, who was on his first Broome Pike Match, was the other side of the bush. Jamie had a run that resulted in a 5lb 8oz fish that put him in the lead. Steve came over to see it and I heard him say at least I’ve seen one!  2 Minutes later he was unhooking his very own fish, that, Tom said, you know what that’s going to weigh, 5lb 8oz as it looked identical. We thought that they were maybe sharing fish 🤣. But no! this one went 5lb 1oz.

John had had one in the meantime at 3lb 13oz so 5lb + was needed to get in the big money pay out!!! With 13 of us fishing our biggest turn out yet you could almost retire on your winnings!!

We were into the closing hour and still apart from a few dropped runs and a frustrating fish around the 5lb mark that nipped at the tale of my lure twice and a lost fish on the way in that looked like it could fit in a sardine tin! But I made up for it, with the only angler to catch Two Pike on the day! With a second Pike of 1lb 4oz and with a combined weight of 3lb 8oz it couldn’t even get me into third place!

It was time for another move, so over to BJs and catch up with the rest of the guys.

Mick had had a nice Perch around 1lb 12oz on a live bait, and Tomas had had a Pike that was to get him a third place at 4lb 15oz. I managed to lose a fish that felt better in the last half hour but hey ho that’s fishing!

So, the results of our second match were

1st Jamie 5lb 8oz

2nd Steve 5lb 1oz

3rd Tomas 4lb 15oz

4th John 3lb 13oz

5th Pete 2lb 4oz and 1lb 4oz = 3lb 8oz

Micks Perch nice but doesn’t count on the day

The rest blanked unfortunately on a hard day.

Alex, Tom, Guntis, Dimitar, Dave, Mike and Jason.
